How long do you take in the shower?
Submitted by Strive2Be.
Before my hair cut, it took about 25 or 30 minutes. Now I can do it all in about 10 minutes.
What does blogging do for you?
Submitted by Madeleine Rose.
It's my socializing thing.
I'm an extreme extrovert who happens to be a stay-at-home mom. For a little while I would go absolutely crazy without having very much adult contact and then I found boards where I could talk with other moms and later Jeremy started blogging and reading blogs and showed me a few of Phisch's posts when she would talk about NM because he knew I'd enjoy them. I became a regular reader of her and a few others, hijacked his blog a few times to post my own stuff, and really got into the blogging world. He gave me my own blog after he realized that I was posting more than he was on HIS blog. That was about 6 years ago. I love being able to share the things that happen in this household and read what other people share. I like the interaction it has given me with other adults and it helps keep me sane when the only time I am able to get out with other adults is for church for weeks on end.
Out of anyone in your address book, with whom would you most like to have lunch today?
I don't have an address book, but if it is my Vox neighborhood... I'd like lunch with Phisch.
What's making you smile today?
There isn't a lot making me smile today. It's a rough day. I have 2, maybe 3, kids sick. There is lack of sleep due to one of the sick kids needing me get up and get medicine in the middle of the night. AND it is raining, so I can't go out and trim the rest of the bushes.
But there is always something that makes me smile... Charlie cat laying in weird positions on the bay window. I'm waiting for him to fall off. AnnaBeth has had some fun on PBSkids.com and printed out some cute pictures for me. Amie is helping me out a bit around the house since I've been busier with the kids who aren't feeling very well and she's made me smile by her sweet attitude about it.
Whoop... there went Charlie! That brought a laugh.
What are five things that make you unique?
Submitted by RA<3TA.
1. My personality - I am me and don't want to be a copy of anyone else.
2. My kids - I have five of them with an span of exactly 6 years and 2 months from first to last and I totally love it.
3. My faith - It is my own. I don't believe something because a pastor says it. I believe what I believe because I read my Bible and figure out what it says on my own. I ask for help sometimes, but I always draw my own conclusions at the end.
4. My husband - He challenged me to be a better me long ago when we were just friends.
5. My parents - They taught me so much and helped mold me into who I am.
What's on your "To-Do" list today? What are you most looking forward to and what are you most dreading?
Laundry, lots of laundry. Almost done with all the clothes (did 7 loads yesterday) and doing a load of swimsuits and towels from the kids playtime in the little pool yesterday, then I need to start on bedding.
We're not getting the key until tomorrow. The guy wasn't able to meet us at the house tonight, but we'll be meeting him tomorrow. In the meantime, the living room here is becoming more and more full of bags and boxes... mostly bags, full of clothes and bedding.
How many houses have you lived in? How is where you live now different from where you grew up?
Interesting that you ask this now. We are moving into another house on Friday. We think it will be our home for a while. It's a quick move, but necessary. We were going to lose this house (not because of anything we did, the landlady is losing it.) Before we even knew we were going to need to move, we saw a rent-to-own flyer at our church and followed up on it. That house was kind of small for us, but we filled out the application for the guy anyway. We didn't expect him to call us up again. Then we learned about the situation with this house and hoped that we would get it even though it was small. It was still bigger than this one and we would be okay there. On Friday, the guy called us up. He said that he had approved us, but that he had another house that was being moved out of that day that would be better for us. We checked it out on Sunday and it is beautiful.
Okay, so including the house we'll be moving into... I have/will have lived in 16 places by next week.
I lived from the time I was born until I was almost 16 down in eastern TN. Some of the time was in a rural area. I didn't have to worry about playing in the road, only about 3 families lived on it (4 in summer.) We would walk down to the lake and go fishing (where I caught my mom once and never any fish.) We could fly kites in our yard without worry about powerlines, but we did have to make sure we didn't get too close to the trees. My dad built us a big playset in the yard, with swings, a slide, a seesaw, and a net to climb. It was so much fun. A kid would bring over his ponies and taught me to ride. I got ambitious once and tried to gallop before I'd been taught and got tossed in a small harvested corn field. Corn stalks are NOT a soft landing, even with a heavy coat on. We had woods near our house and we would go running through them. In the winter, if there was enough snow, we could go sledding down the hill in the cow field across the road. The cows were only out at that part in the summer and my mom would go over there sometimes to get manure for fertilizer for her flower garden. We went hiking and camping at the Smokey Mtns.
Now, we live in an urban area a little south of Chicago. The new house is still in the same area, but in a better neighborhood. The kids have to stay mostly in the yard to play and it isn't very big. If the other kids are out and playing, they sometimes go and play with them. As long as they are within hearing range when I call them, I am okay with it. In the new place, they'll probably rollerblade, skate, bike, or whatever in the alley behind the house. Kite flying is almost extinct as I don't know anywhere here that has enough space without powerlines or trees. We'll be bringing up their playset when we move. It didn't fit in this yard, but will in the new one. No ponies are around here to ride except for maybe some fair and then you are tethered and have to ride in a circle at a slow walk. There are no hills for sledding around here, that I know of anyway. We've walked a few trails at the Nature Center, but it is flat, short, and easy and not nearly as interesting as the hikes I went on when I was young. My kids have never been camping, except for maybe once they slept out in a tent with Jeremy set up in our backyard. We did do a KOA Kamping Kabin once when James was a baby and I was pregnant with Christine down in Branson, MO. That was a lot of fun.
The difference from where I lived when I was my kids' age to where we live now. It's a big difference. Different climate (more snow and rain here and a bit cooler up here than down there), different terrain, and just all around different.
What are the goofy nicknames you have for your pet? Bonus points for sharing a picture of him/her.
Submitted by Papi Chulo.
I don't really have any real nicknames for my cats. I call them baby boy (Charlie) or baby girl (Mittens) sometimes, but mostly when I don't use their whole name it is just Char and Mitt. I do Charlie the Unicorn, both 1 and 2, references with Charlie. It's not uncommon to hear me say, "Let's go to candy mountain, Charlie" or "Charlie, You're the Banana King!".
Oh, I love my Charlie cat. We just celebrated his 1st birthday on May 15th. He's a sweetie! He's laying at my feet right now. Mittens is actually Amie's cat and she's not as cuddly though she does like to sleep at someone's feet. Mine, if the girls' door is closed. Amie's feet if the door is opened.
